Vapor cleaning is highly effective in sanitizing the surface as well. Several studies have been published showing the viability of vapor-cleaning mold and other pathogens that can cause illness.

Your granite finishes and how they are treated in Huntington Beach, CA

There are several finishes available for granite surfaces but there are four main finishes.

Shine

Granite Matte Finish

(honed) finish is a low to no-shine finish. This means that when you look straight into the surface you will not see a reflection. You will see a little bit of reflection when looking across the surface at windows and other light sources. When look at the surface the movement and veining in the stone is more prevalent. This is a common finish for granite countertops in [city]. If you have a honed or matte finish granite shower, it needs to be sealed regularly to prevent it from developing a mold or mildew problem. It is recommended to make sure the shower has adequate ventilation to dry when not in use.

Granite Satin Finish

(Semi-polished) finish is a medium to high shine finish that will show some reflection when looking down into it and a high reflection when looking across it. This is a common finish for some granite floors as well as countertops, more rare in showers but we have created beautiful satin finish shower walls. We will always recommend that your shower floor stay honed to prevent slipping.

Granite Polished Finish

is as it sounds. Your granite shower walls are brought to a high shine using diamond abrasives and polished chemically to achieve depth and clarity. A Polished finish is common on residential and commercial floors and counters as well as granite showers. Polished granite showers will require more maintenance and etches can be seen more easily in the shine. Polished granite is a more formal look but can also lend classic beauty to any space. It is important to squeegee the walls after your shower with a polished granite shower.

Granite Leathered Finish

is a rough or textured finish most commonly done on granite and natural stone counters. A leathered finish is rarer in granite showers but we have seen it. The leathered finish on your granite shower is achieved using abrasive brushes that remove the softer parts of the stone while polishing the harder areas of the stone. Leathered finishes come at all levels of shine from matte to polished. A leathered granite shower surface has an old-world, warm look and feel.

Caring for your granite in Huntington Beach, CA

1

Granite is a hard stone but is still porous. Lighter-colored granites such as tans and whites can be very porous. It’s important to properly and frequently seal these granite surfaces to prevent stains.

2

Stains that occur on your granite counters can be removed in most cases with a poultice. A poultice is a cream that when applied to the stained area for some time can lighten or remove even deep-seated stains. It takes seven to ten days for a poultice to do its job. The cream is applied and about a quarter inch thick and covered with plastic for three days. The plastic is then removed without disturbing the cream and allowed to dry completely. This can take up to a week. Once the surface is dry the powder is then removed and the poultice is reapplied if necessary if the stain is not fully removed. Poulticing is not always 100% successful but it is the best way to remove stains from your granite.

3

Granite showers should be squeegeed after every use or at least as often as possible to prevent minerals from your water from bonding to the surface. If sqeegeeing is not done religiously your granite counters may need to be restored. Call Sureshine today to have your granite shower inspected.

4

The edges of your granite counters around your sink can get chipped or damaged when you’re doing the dishes or working around your sink. We highly recommend using protective measures by covering your sink rail with a towel or a rubber mat. Chips in your counters around your sink are among the most common repair requests.
